Putting Out The Fire with Gasoline
For
nc_ooc prompt: It’s a cold, dark night, but something’s going on outside. Something that brings your character to the window, the door – maybe even lures them out into the chilly air entirely. Is it a celebration? An emergency? Maybe it’s an intriguing mystery…
Lucifer felt the pull, though he hadn't expected it to come so soon. Either way, they had long prepared for this. Lucifer played such a long game in manipulation that he seemed to operate solely on reckless moments of unrelated madness. It was far from the truth.
His court, and many of the other angels followed him as he walked to the doors of Chaos. They all bore armor, even Phenex and Astaroth who Beelzebub had just recently made armor and weapons for. They had never bore them before this moment, but things were changing. The presence Lucifer wished the fallen to pull was changing. The chance of a war breaking out on the doorstep of Chaos was 50/50 by Mammon's account. These were fair odds, and not unexpected.
Death pulled open the door and the King stepped to the threshold but did not pass beyond. As expected God and the seven Seraphim of Heaven stood before him burning bright. The other angels shielded their eyes but Lucifer refrained from even blinking, though the light of God felt searing. This was a game, a bluff, a very dangerous bluff that he was playing. Lucifer knew he had yet to regain enough power to challenge God this openly. As always though, Lucifer could make others, even God, believe his facades when it suited his needs.
"You have transgressed again."
The Fallen Angel stared, blank and unimpressed. They were obviously still foolish enough to believe he would stop transgressing against God's will. A mistake they continued to make since the first rebellion.
"You will return Michael's sword." God demanded and Lucifer felt the pull to comply as all angels did.
Lucifer raised his hand with an open palm, freezing the angels behind him who did not have the will to ignore a direct demand from God. "I cannot."
"You mean will not." Michael snapped from his place beside God. It was good to see his rage still burned. That was pleasant enough to crack Lucifer's stoic expression to a smirk.
"No, cannot." Lucifer corrected, calm but with an ever growing smirk. "I had it melted down for other purposes."
Michael flared bright, his full power gearing up for a display of his fury. Lucifer laughed musically in his perfect angelic voice. "Perhaps wrath should be yours, brother?"
This was easy. Lucifer had been tormenting Michael's rage since they still dwelt in heaven. Even as an angel of love, Lucifer had only begrudgingly given care for Michael, so deep was the rift between them. Once it was his unrelenting, death centered Justice that offended Lucifer's sense of affection for the universe, that still had some play, but now it was a matter of Lucifer's disobedience clashing with Michael's blind servitude.
God merely raised a finger to quell the seraphim while Lucifer waited. "You have broken your agreement to remain confined."
Lucifer looked as though he hadn't acknowledged the divine presence as God continued to speak "You need to face judgement for continually entering another realm."
Lucifer bristled and then stood a bit taller. "I have broken no restraint placed upon me, a fortune for your lackeys. Your edict is clear that I will face punishment for entering your realm. I have not. I enter my own realm on whose soil I will see an act of war should I find my space has been trespassed unbidden by your heavenly rot."
Michael stepped forward even as Lucifer still felt the restraint of God on him. Rebellion, for wrath, was in the second born seraphim's eyes. "Blasphemy! You make yourself a god."
Lucifer was not watching the angel but his feet edging closer to Chaos' threshold. "I will be a god if that is what I wish to be."
Haughty words and arrogance. Lucifer mocking them over claiming himself a god, something he had never and would never do, snapped not only Michael but one of the other seraphim. The transgression happened as Lucifer eased a step back and Michael bore down upon him. In an instant it happened. Lucifer lowered his gigantic wings to expose Astaroth who stood much taller behind him, knocked arrow beading on Michael.
"Kill him for his trespass as they would do to me." The command came dark and hate filled. Astaroth obeyed and an arrow flew true into Michael's throat. Lucifer grabbed the bolt as Michael slumped, twisted and ripped it free.
Blood welled up in the mouth of the angel at his feet. Lucifer unceremoniously kicked the seraphim back across the threshold like a bag of garbage.
"Keep control of your Dogs, Father." His words were poisonous and offended. He held up the arrow watching the fire crawl over the point. Any angel would know what that fire meant, this bolt was made of Michael's flaming sword. "I can manage mine and they are rebels. Are yours not supposed to be prostrated and obedient?"
"Even I do not come to your doors demanding your presence as a false pretense to offend your realm." The rebel continued to harass his opponent. God's presence flickered. Lucifer felt the wrath pulse and smirked. "Close the doors. I have nothing further to say to these who would break their own words while we remain obedient to them."
With that Lucifer turned his back and the angels closed the doors in the face of God. They were breaking down, heaven and its Angels. Michael himself had ignored the will of God right before his eyes. War would come, but perhaps Lucifer would not have to start it. Someone else would start a second rebellion in heaven in his stead?
